Who We AreThe Medical Device Safety Institute (MDSI) is an industry-independent, non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the safety of medical devices. Affiliated with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Institute in Boston, the MDSI is uniquely committed to improving the safety and reliability of medical devices because we do not accept any funding from the medical device industry. The MDSI believes industry device bench testing, by its very nature, while necessary and important, cannot sufficiently ensure the safety of medical devices. Medical devices have enriched and extended the lives of countless people, but device malfunctions and software glitches have become modern "diseases" that will continue to occur. Timely, critical information about device performance, malfunctions, and safeguards is necessary to prevent potentially defective devices from reaching unwary consumers.
